As stated in The World of Ice & Fire sourcebook (2014), the Order of Maesters in Westeros, and other learned men across the world, have studied astronomy for centuries, and by observing the movements of stars across the night sky, have determined with relative certainty that their world is a round globe. members of toto Isolated tribes or simple farm peasants in Westeros who have no education, of course, might still colloquially believe that the world is flat, but they are mistaken. Apparently, their better knowledge of astronomy is one of the reasons they consider one twelve month period to be “a year”: this is how long it takes for the movement of the stars to reset (as their planet moves around its sun – though it hasn’t been stated if they understand that it isn’t the other way around, with the sun orbiting around the world).

Also, Martin has stressed that it should not be assumed that his fantasy world even has an equivalent to the Americas or Australia, just waiting to be discovered. They might simply not exist, or have no direct analogues.

Nonetheless, while their globe is bigger than real-life Earth, it is not so utterly vast that that everything from the Wall to the Summer Isles is in the same climate zone: there is noticeable variation from polar regions to tropical regions. For all we know, however, regions like the Summer Isles which we would consider to have “tropical” climates are actually located in their world’s “sub-tropics”, and the “tropics” around their equator are so hot that they are truly uninhabitable to humans. Another hint about their world’s size is that constellations in the night sky are noticeably different between the Wall and southern latitudes such as Dorne and the Summer Isles, meaning that the curvature of the globe is noticeable across such a distance (if their world were 100 times the size of Earth, the angle of curvature would be so low that they wouldn’t be able to see different constellations between these latitudes).

Even the world map appearing in The Lands of Ice and Fire, however, only depicts a map of “the known world” as it would be known to educated men in Westeros, such as the maesters of the Citadel. Thus it is reasonably accurate for regions of the eastern continents which are well-known to Westeros through trade contact (the Free Cities, Valyria, Slaver’s Bay, etc.) but in the extreme far east near distant Asshai, myths and legends cloud the facts, resulting in descriptions of cannibals, “bloodless men”, and “winged men” on the map which should not be accepted by the reader as objectively true. As George R.R. Martin himself explains:

Too bad they’re not available digitally and zoom-able ( without having to download them for the copyright reasons you mentioned ). I mean, I am obviously a GoT reader and would love to have a closer look at the places G.R.R. Martins mention in his books without buying having a poster that would be hard to find anyway.. This game is very frustrating and annoying. I hate that if you go off of the game that restarts all the levels that you did, I understand that this is to make the game harder but it’s incredibly annoying. The controls could be better, they are very hard for me to use. I also wish that there was a way to turn the music off. I know that it’s probably supposed to be a distraction but….I think there should still be an option to turn it off.

We’ll never get over how hard this game is! “Getting Over It” is simple, if bizarre, in concept – you’re a dude stuck in a pot trying to get up a mountain using a sledgehammer. But this is made monumentally difficult by the intentionally unintuitive controls and the fact that if you fall down you have to start all over again – no checkpoints! The sheer infuriating rage this game induces is remarkable, as hours of progress can be undone in an instant! And Bennett Foddy’s running philosophical commentary certainly doesn’t help, either. Honestly, it’s probably more fun watching people play “Getting Over It” than it is to play it – if only for the schadenfreude!

Gooden was relieved by Rick Aguilera in the sixth inning. Aguilera loaded the bases in the seventh, and after consecutive RBI singles by Henderson and Owen, was pulled in favor of Jesse Orosco, who shut down the Red Sox over the next two innings.

Oil Can Boyd, the #3 starter for the Red Sox, was originally scheduled to start Game 7. The Mets had gotten to him early in Game 3, which they won 7–1 to record their first win of the series. Boyd gave up four runs in the first inning of Game 3 and six overall despite pitching into the seventh, getting only one run of support in the loss.
